Wrapping in Rhythm

A body-based ritual to feel held, gathered and brought back to yourself

The Experience

We are more than what we can put into words. The body carries its own knowing — and sometimes what we need is space to safely feel and be held.

Wrapping in Rhythm is an intimate ritual of body wrapping, live frame drumming, and presence — a space to slow down, rest, and experience being held, supported, and contained.

Using long cotton shawls (traditional Mexican Rebozo), the body is gently wrapped from head to toe while lying comfortably on the back. The wrapping creates a clear, felt sense of the body's edges — a physical experience of containment and being gathered back to oneself.

Each shawl is carefully tightened and loosened according to your comfort. The ritual can be adapted to your needs — with fewer shawls, lying on your side, and other adjustments — all of which we can discuss together during a short pre-session conversation.

Alongside the wrapping, a live sound space is created through frame drumming, voice, and silence. The sound moves through the space as you rest, inviting attention away from the busy mind and towards the body's sensations. There is no need to follow, respond or do anything. You can simply listen, receive and allow yourself to drift.

The experience may move between deep relaxation, wakeful dreaming, and sleep. Every ritual unfolds differently.

Throughout, the facilitator's presence gently holds the space — attentive to your body, your comfort, and the unfolding of your journey.

The ritual closes with a gentle landing: time to return at your own pace, a warm cup of herbal tea, and space to share if you wish.

There is no expectation to speak. Silence is equally welcome.

The Roots Of This Ritual

This work is rooted in ancestral body-wrapping practices — infant swaddling and postpartum ceremonies such as Closing the Bones — rituals born from the understanding of our physiological, emotional and spiritual need to be held, contained and accompanied at times of life transition.

In adult life, this kind of holding is largely absent. Past adolescence, outside of the brief warmth of a family member or friend's embrace and romantic intimacy, most of us are simply no longer held. And yet the body and the soul continue to need it.

Being safely cocooned and gently held is a profoundly powerful way to drop into your body and return to yourself. At times of transition, whether marked by joy or grief, it can honour what you are moving through — creating space for processing, integrating and becoming.

This practice creates exactly that space. In a way that meets you exactly where you are.

This Experience May Speak to You If You Are:

A woman or non-binary person who is longing to feel safely held, gathered, and cared for.

This practice may be particularly meaningful if you:

  • Are navigating a threshold — perimenopause or menopause, separation, motherhood, a new beginning or another significant transition

  • Are carrying grief and need somewhere to put it down, even briefly

  • Are neurodivergent and experience dysregulation or disconnection from your body, or find that touch, undressing or verbal processing can create barriers to accessing embodied care

  • Are a mother or carer in need of deep rest and care

  • Feel disconnected from your body, or long to feel grounded, contained and present in your own physical form

  • Long to be held and cared for without anything being asked of you

I occasionally work with men, either through referrals from existing female clients or in paired sessions, such as parent-child or couples.

This is not therapy or massage. It is an embodied ritual offering space to slow down, receive care and re-connect with your body.
