Sauna Sisterhood
A weekly outdoor Finish sauna meet-up in North London

About the Practice
Every Sunday morning, women of all ages gather to sweat, plunge and rest together.
Move between sauna and plunge at our own pace. Stay as long as feels right. Plunge or don’t. Talk, laugh, listen or simply rest.
A space to slow down, honour our body and listen to what it needs.
The space is shared and co-held through presence, care and kindness. We bring our lived experiences, learn from one another, and make room for what is spoken — and what remains unspoken.
Sometimes there is a shared hum, or improvised singing.
This is not therapy, and it is not the pub or the gym either. It is a peaceful space to rest, restore, and connect with our body in community.
You can come alone and know that you will be welcomed. That there will be women there who are glad you came.
Why Sauna Sisterhood?
Through my regular solo sauna practice, I began meeting other women—and noticing how nourishing our conversations and shared presence felt. A quality of listening, kindness, and ease. More spaciousness, more warmth.
Inspired by the Estonian tradition of sauna as a place of gathering, care and truth-telling — so beautifully captured in Smoke Sauna Sisterhood, the 2023 documentary — I wanted to make that intentional and regular. Not a women-only session because we need to retreat from mixed spaces to feel more at ease and safer, but a gathering where women know other women will be there — where we arrive together, take up space together, and hold it with care and mindfulness.
Come with hairy or smooth legs. Come in shorts, a swimsuit, or whatever feels right. Come at 25 or 85. Come for the heat, the plunge, the conversation, or simply to sit quietly among other women.
Something about women gathering across generations feels nurturing—sharing stories, laughter, knowledge, and silence. The more of us who come, the easier it becomes to take and hold our place in these spaces.
We meet on Sunday mornings in an outdoor, mixed-community sauna space.
The sisterhood comes from returning, from welcoming women who come alone, and from knowing there will be women there who are glad you came.

Who Is This For
If you've been wanting to try sauna but haven't known where to start, you won't be the only one finding your way in.
If you already love sauna, there will be other women here to share it with.
You don't need to be a seasoned sauna-goer. You don't need to know anyone. You can arrive alone, stay as long as feels right, plunge or not, talk or not.
We don't comment on bodies, age, weight, scars or tattoos — positively or negatively. No comparisons, no competition, no judgement. We each get to simply be in our own bodies, as they are.
All ages, all bodies. Trans, non-binary and queer women are very welcome.
